Using technology to close the Access to Justice gap.
At U Do It Legal, we understand that seeking or responding to a Domestic Violence Restraining Order can be a daunting and overwhelming task. We empower individuals without attorney representation to confidently represent themselves in court — avoiding expensive attorneys fees and confusing court websites.
Access to Justice
Over 70% of restraining order cases involve at least one self-represented party. We're building tools so that the legal system is navigable by everyone, not just those who can afford an attorney.
Built with Empathy
Our team includes certified Domestic Violence counselors and experienced family law attorneys. Every part of our product is designed with survivor safety and dignity in mind.
For Both Parties
We're one of the few legal self-help platforms that serves both petitioners AND respondents in DVRO cases — always separately, always with safety in mind.
Born from a real gap in the system.
At our sister law firm, Stearns & Ryan, Lawyers, we upheld a longstanding commitment to serving a diverse clientele. Yet we recognized a profound community need: the democratization of legal access amidst a growing unmet civil legal need commonly known as the Access to Justice (A2J) Gap.
Addressing this challenge, Managing Partner Ryan Stearns, alongside Kelly Crabtree — a certified Domestic Violence Counselor and seasoned Court Self-Help Center volunteer — envisioned a transformative solution: U Do It Legal.

"The people who need the legal system most are often the ones least able to afford it. We built U Do It Legal to change that."
— Ryan Stearns, Co-Founder
